Hero Dog Awards - Moka

Heflin, Alabama

A lady and her husband bought Moka from a breeder back in 2022, but the husband claimed to be allergic to and didn’t like dogs. I’ve always wanted an ESA who could eventually be my service/hearing animal. So one day I was looking for shih tzus and came across Moka’s ad. I adopted Moka from her previous family in July of 2021. Ever since she has become part of my family, she has been more than a blessing. I have a lot of mental health problems and I’ve had moderate hearing loss in both ears since birth. Although Moka isn’t a trained service dog yet, she does more than enough to keep me safe and help me with my mental health. Whenever I’m having a panic attack or PTSD episodes, she’s there in my lap licking my face making sure I’m okay. If we are out and about and she hears something potentially dangerous, she lets me know by pawing at me or leads me to safety. She’s literally my little hero. I don’t know where I’d be without her. She will be 1 on May 15, 2022. To be so young, she is so incredibly smart and she LOVES so hard. I’m not just nominating her because she is my pet, but because she is literally a hero. In the picture attached, you can see Moka with her favorite toy that she placed in my lap when I was having a bad mental health day. That’s another way she tries to make me and others feel better; by bringing a toy of hers so we can play fetch or tug-o-war. There is so much more I can go on about with Moka, but this is basically the gist of it!
